TARDIS PSYCHOLOGY

06.05.2006 17:26 EDT
"One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of one angel." So says Reinette, mistress to the King of France, in tonight's episode of Doctor Who. In my opinion, Russell T. Davies has regenerated The Doctor into a new popular psychologist for the modern era. In a project which began with Queer as Folk, and continues through the adventures of the Time Lord, Davies also gives a message of hope to the gay man. Yes, I know The Doctor is not gay. As a fan since the days of William Hartnell, I would not remotely entertain that idea. But, for me, it's the essence of The Doctor I identify with. A man travelling through life alone in a transient universe can be one of the tragedies of being a gay man. Despite this, it appears one can still have a zest for new adventures, even at 900 years old. Or in my case, approaching 51. I really appreciate such messages. It keeps me alive and open to meeting my one angel in a world full of demons. For me, Davies' Doctor understands my world completely. How about yours?
