Planes are used to trim wood to a smooth and finished size as to straighten irregular edges. They are availablein many sizes and styles for specialized jobs. Sizes of the jack plane range from 12 to 15in. (30 to 38 cm) in bed length. The PLAIN IRON (cutting edge) is 2 3/8 in. (6 cm) in width. The cutting edge is adjustable both in depth of cut and alignment from side to side. The lateral adjustment lever aligns to blade whit the bed.

The junior jack plain was designed for easy use by junior high school students. It is 11 1/2 in. (29 cm) long with a 1 3/4 in. (5 cm) wide cutting edge. Adjustment and use are similar to that for the jack plane.
