International Migrants Day
International Migrants Day is commemorated on December 18 as declared by the General Assembly of United Nations on 4 December 2000 considering the large and multiplying number of migrants all over the world. The General Assembly conducted the international convention for safeguarding the rights of migrant workersand their family members On 18 December, 1990.

International Migrants Day Celebrated Worldwide
This day is observed in different countries by intergovernmental and non-governmental bodies viaexchange of information on human rights and fundamental rights of migrants, and also by sharing of experiences and the mode of actions to assure the interests of migrants.

Why International Migrants Day is celebrated?
It provides us with an opportunity:

*.to curb all kinds of violence and abuse faced by the migrants and their family members and advocate respect for their primary human rights;
*.to request governments around the world to refine the UN Convention on MigrantWorkers;
*.to make the governments responsible for the fundamental rights of migrants.

Launching of Radio 1812
Radio 1812 was launched in 2006 which is a global audio activity dedicated to creating and broadcasting programs worldwide through radios channels on International Migrants Day.
Since 2000, the international group has utilized 18th of December, International Migrants Day, to represent the human rights of migrants.Enabling migrant voices reach far and wide is the common interest throughout International Migrants Day events and this is exactly where the heart of Radio 1812 lies: connecting communities across the worldin terms of promoting the pressing and ever present issue of migrant rights.
Radio 1812 drives together the migrant groups, institutions and radios from across the world to create, air and share programs commemorating the achievements and focusing on the concerns of migrants across the global in a radio marathon on 18th of December.

On the face of so many overwhelming efforts put up by varied organizations and bodies to protect Migrant Basic Rights it is now time forcommunication organizations and other networks to come forward to establish that migrants and displaced people’s voices does not go unheard. Media professionalsshould also ensure that migrants and their rights are protected and reported in a clean and proper manner upholding their right to express and be heard.
