Most of the Punjab is a fertile , alluvial plain with many rivers and an extensive irrigati0n canal system . The soil characteristics are influenced to a limited extent by the topography vegetati0n and parent rock . Punjab is divided into three distinct regions on the basic of soil types ; southwestern , central and eastern . Punjab falls under seismic zones 2 , 3 , 4 . Zones 2 and 3 are referred to as low damage . Risk z0ne while zone 4 referred to as high damage risk z0ne .
