Kerala Blasters FC (Kerala Blasters Football Club) is an Indian Super League football franchise in Kochi, Kerala that played their maiden match on 13th October 2014 during the inaugural season of the Indian Super League, which they lost by one goal scored by Koke of North East United FC at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadiumin Guwahati, Assam. The team is owned by former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Prasad V Potluri.
In early 2014, it was announced that the All India Football Federation, the national federation for football in India, and IMG-Reliance would be accepting bids for ownership of eight of nine selected cities for the upcoming ISL ( Indian Super League), an eight-team franchise league modeled along the lines of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament. On 13 April 2014, it was announced that Sachin Tendulkarand Prasad V Potlurihad won the bidding for the Kochi franchise. On 27 May 2014, the team was officially named"Kerala Blasters".The team name is based on the popular nickname of team owner Sachin Tendulkar, Master Blaster. It was officially inaugurated at the Crowne Plaza, Kochi on 15 September 2014.
