Scandals. Channel 4's controversial era. Part 2

Another example of what the channel was occasionally broadcasting at night was a scene in an Italian (I think) film which a very young boy stood on a rock to get himself at the right height to have sex with an ass which is similar to a donkey and then the young boy character had sex with the animal. In the next scene there was a group of very young boys who were having sex with a chicken each. It was pretty much a national TV station showing two child bestiality porn scenes and I for one was very shocked and offended. The BBFC were being very libertarian when it came to subtitled foreign films despite the fact that Channel 4 was broadcasting them without any additional censorship. It was a recipe for causing shock and offense to many of the viewers of some of the films shown on the channel during the nighttime.

Another example is a Japanese film where a man raped a pretty woman. He got into no trouble with the police and in fact she then became his ladyfriend and lover. The message was very obvious... You can get yourself a pretty ladyfriend by raping her. I was offended by that film too. I enjoy and for the most part approve of porn but that film's message was surely irresponsible and misogynous. It's another example of what Michael Grade and the others at the channel considered to be acceptable for nighttime broadcast at the time.
