Tae Kwon-Do is a modern day version of unarmed combat which had been practised for many hundreds of years in the orient. Tae Kwon-Do matured into its modern day perfected form in Korea. Translated, "Tae" means to jump, kick or smash with the feet. "Kwon" translates as a fist and to punch or destroy with the hand or fist. "Do" translates as way of art or method.
The art of hand and foot and techniques implied are for self defence using a skilled application of a variety of punches, kicks, blocks, dodges and interception with the hands, arms and feet leading to the rapid destruction of an opponent.
To the Koreans and any serious students the art is more than a skilled combat because a way of thinking and conduct through life is achieved. Taking onboard the concept and and spirit of self discipline and moral re´armament.
Modern society has developed a culture of violence and intimidation which plague our lives. Tae Kwon-Do empowers the weak with a weapon to defend themselves as well as others and defeat the opponent at the same time.. When wrongly utilised it can become a lethal weapon of badness going against everything the art stands for.
