ii) THIS and THAT are used before singular nouns.
-This book is very interesting.
-Don't drink that water, it's bad.

THESE and THOSE are used before plural nouns.
-These shoes are uncomfortable.
-Those trousers are very nice.

iii) THIS and THESE refer to a thing or things which are physically close to the speaker.

THAT and THOSE refer to a thing or things which are physically distant from the speaker.
-These shoes I'm wearing are clean, those shoes you are wearing are dirty!
