God’s Provisions

“Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.”

Ecclesiastes 5:19

stewarding our time for God’s glory. Another area in which God wants us to be faithful stewards is the area of our provisions. It doesn’t matter whether we have many possessions or not, God wishes for us to steward our physical and financial provisions for Him.
James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Everything we have is from God! He has given us provisions so we may better serve Him! We ought to be using those things He has given us in a way that would glorify Him.

God has given us exactly what we need to fulfill His will for our lives. Sometimes we can compare what we have with what others have. Instead of focusing on what others have, we must focus on how we can glorify God with what He has given us.

Psalm 84:11 says, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” God will not withhold provisions from us when we are walking with Him!

How we steward our provisions tells others and God what we prioritize in our lives. Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” When we love God and are seeking to please Him, we will be more willing to use our provisions for Him.

David Livingstone once wrote, “I place no value on anything I have or may possess, except in relation to the kingdom of God. If anything will advance the interests of the kingdom, it shall be given away or kept, only as by giving or keeping it I shall most promote the glory of Him to whom I owe all my hopes in time or eternity.”

David Livingstone realized the importance of stewarding his provisions. We must remember that everything we have is from God! He provides us with what we need to serve Him and fulfill His will for our lives.

Friend, do you ever get distracted by focusing on the possessions of others? God has given you exactly what you need and you should be focusing on stewarding your own provisions. What do you have that you could use to better serve God—a talent, possession, or financial asset? Take time today to ask God how you can better serve Him through stewarding your provisions.
