Despite few releases during its ten years of existence, Carpathian Forest are one of the few living-legends in a scene that is more than overcrowded with trendies and newcomers who first jump on the Black Metal bandwagon. Carpathian Forest had its beginning as far back as 1990, formed by R. Nattefrost (aka Lord Nosferatu) and J. Nordavind (aka Lord Karnstein). They released their now legendary demo "Bloodlust & Perversion" in 1992 and "Journey Through The Cold Moors of Svarttjern" (aka Promo 1993) in 1993. This immediately launched them into pure cult status within the underground, among those devoted to the true Norwegian Death & Black Metal scene. Their music has been following an obscure path made of obsessive, morbid and grim sounds which are to this day a sort of trademark for the band.

Avantgarde Music signed the band in 1995 and released the MCD "Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods" in 1995 with session musicians. It gained great reviews in the underground, but Carpathian Forest would remain silent for three years until finally unleashing their first full length album "Black Shining Leather" in 1998 with Lazare (of Solefald) on Drums. The album gained much acclaim from the underground press and fellow Norwegian musicians. The feedback pushed the band to immediately start working on brand new album...but with so much inspiration (and music written) they wrote enough material for two albums and decided to release a two album concept.

Sound Suite studios was the incubator that brought to light the band's new opus: "Strange Old Brew". Eleven tracks that do not betray the essence of Carpathian Forest, for they are still the masters of pure Black Metal in the new millenium! "Strange Old Brew" is just the first part of the perverted concept that will have its conclusion with the next album "Morbid Facination of Death". Tired of a number of session musiciains, Nattefrost & Nordavid hired two special guest performers for "Strange Old Brew": Tchort (ex-EMPEROR/ex-SATYRICON/BLOOD RED THRONE/GREEN CARNATION) on bass and Anders Kobro (ex-IN THE WOODS/GREEN CARNATION) on drums.

Carpathian Forest immediately went back to Sound Suite studios to begin the recordings for "Morbid Facination of Death". After finishing this, founding member J. Nordavland left the band for his own reasons. By this time, In The Woods was now defunct and Anders Kobro joined as the permanent drummer. Also, Tchort joined as a permanent member, handling both guitar and bass. Vrangsinn (of WORLD DESTROYER, a band formed by Nattefrost & Vrangsinn) joined the band on bass and synth. "Morbid Fascination of Death" contains 12 more tracks recorded in the same vein of "Strange Old Brew", including a more deathlike approach with the unique CF sound you know and love...raw, necro, and blasphemous. It includes a cover of a Mayhem's "Ghoul", a new version of "Carpathian Forest" and a re-working of "The Last Sigh of Nostalgia" that originally appeared on the 1993 promo! Also, this marks the first appearance of Vrangsinn on a CF release, the final appearance of J. Nordavind, and many guest musicians!

After a lengthy European tour with Behemoth in 2001, Carpathian Forest entered a Norweigan studio in June 2002 to record an EP for their final Avantgarde Music release (they signed a new deal with Season of Mist records). The album, titled "We're Going To Hell For This - Over A Decade of Perversions" will be a full length album containing a five new songs, three cover songs, a demo track and seven live tracks from the recent tour and Inferno Festival appearance. After recording this album, CF entered the studio again in France in September, 2002 to record their debut record for Season of Mist, titled "Defening The Throne of Evil". This will be released on the world on March 17, 2003. Vrangsinn describes it as a "violent hell attack".
