<1920s> THE GREAT GATSBY, Characteristics: The garconne or boyish look was all the rage. It portrayed the ideal woman as an androgynous, working girl who was seen as an equal to men while simultaneously possessing the appeal of the femme fatale. KEY PIECES: Bobbed hair, long pearl necklaces, cloche hats, feathered headbands, knee-length shift dresses. STYLE ICON: Coco Chanel.

<1930s> THE GOLDEN AGE, Characteristics: The era of figure-hugging, bias-cut dresses, puffed sleeves, shoulder-length, wavy hair & tans. The 1930s were a time of glamour & elegance. <1940s> HEROINE HITCHCOCK LOOK, Characteristics: The true hallmarks of fashion in the 1940s included an austere silhouette with narrow hips, padded shoulders, hats & turbans. <1950s> THE NEW LOOK, Characteristics, The constant rounds of cocktail parties & other social eventr all required dressing up. <1960s> MOD ABOUT YOU, Characteristics: Fashion in the 1960s tended to encourage exhibitionism. Clothes were geared to showing off women's bodies.
