What to look out for:

• Unconsciousness
• Dizziness and nausea
• Loss of memory
• Headache
• Double-vision

What to do:

1. If the casualty is unconscious, check their airway, breathing and pulse and put them in the recovery position. If they do not regain consciousness after a few minutes, send for an ambulance. Be ready to start artificial ventilation or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary.

2. If the casualty is conscious, lie them down in a comfortable position until their condition improves.

Advise anyone who has had a blow to their head and lost consciousness to see their doctor.
