What to look out for:
• Unconsciousness
• Burns

What to do:

1. Only approach the casualty once the current is off or the contact is broken. If possible, switch current off at the mains. Break the contact between the electrical source and the casualty with something dry and non-conductive, such as a broom handle or a rolled up newspaper.

2. Check the casualty’s breathing and pulse; and be ready for artificial ventilation or cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary.

3. Call an ambulance.

If high voltage electricity is involved, call an ambulance and stay well clear of the area until help arrives.
