:God's Word:

If every word that God speaks is vital for us, how does God speak to us today? How can we both hear and understand His word correctly? Christianity is essentially a revealed Faith. It is not man searching in the dark for God. It is God revealing Himself to man in a way so personal that it demands
a response.
>Heb.1:1, 2<. God, who has at various times and in various ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets,
2. has in these days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made the worlds; - Jesus is God's supreme revelation of Himself to man, and is something that every man of every age and culture can understand. The personal word of God became a human being and dwelt amongst us. Above all, God is personal. If we have seen Jesus we have seen the father. If we want to come to God, we must come to Jesus. He is the image of the invisible God, and in Him all the fullness of God was
pleased to dwell.
>Heb.1:3<. who being the brightness of His Glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. The written word of God, as given to us in the Scriptures. Although God is by definition our ultimate authority, the Bible is our final
court of appeal for what God has said. Here is the God given objective test for our belief and faith. When the rationalists of Jesus' day, the Sadducees party, found they could not rationally accept the idea of resurrection, Jesus brought them swiftly back to the truth of the Scripture. He reminded them that God had revealed Himself in the Scripture as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. *Matthew
22:29-32* Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30."For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in Heaven. 31."But concerning the resurrection of the dead, you have not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,
32.'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob"? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." Their rationalism had become an arrogant stumbling-block to a knowledge of God. God's word interpreted by the Scripture; which Scripture says, God says. Jesus certainly endorsed Scripture as the Word of God; He knew it, He taught it, lived by it, fulfilled it. There is no doubt as
to His own understanding of the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God; and since this was 'Christ's textbook. 'Loyalty to Christ, our Risen Saviour and enthroned Lord, calls for total submission to Scripture, and anyone, or any church, declining to believe and do what is written there, of failing in practise to be faithful to it, is to extent a rebel against Christ.' Strong words, but accepting Christ as Lord includes accepting His
teachings, in every part, as divine authority in our lives. The various New Testament writers also claimed that what they were writing had been given to them by God. 'If anyone does not recognise this, he is
not recognised
(eg. by God) *Galatians1:1* Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead) *1Corinth14:38* But if anyone is ignorant, let him
be ignorant."
The spoken word, as given through preaching or teaching, witnessing and prophecying, God often speaks to us through the silent eloquence of creation, through pricks of conscience or peace of mind, through our daily and varied events in our lives, we shall also hear God's word when the Scriptures are expounded, when a prophetic word is given (in whatever form), or when a brother or a sister is talking with us. God did not finish speaking to us when the Scriptures were completed. Although we are not to expect any further revelation
of doctrine the spoken word, to be authentic, must be in accordance with the written word, and Glorify the personal Word. God is the living God, the God of today; and every day He wants us to enjoy a living relationship with Him, involving a two-way conversation. *******
