Heavy metal band Disturbed came together through the matching of a band with a singer. Long-time friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family from which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed, and the band built up a following on Chicago's South Side before a demo tape led to their signing to Giant Records, which released their debut album, The Sickness, in March 2000. The band gained more fans and exposure playing the main stage of the 2001 Ozz Fest, then breaking away to do their own self-described "victory lap" around the U.S. that fall. Also during this period, they managed to record a vicious new version of wrestler Steve Austin's theme song that was so good it managed to receive radio play, and was one of the many bands announced to work on a high profile Faith No More tribute album. The band stepped into the studio after stepping off of the road and began work on a new disc that would reflect their growth as a band. Feeling experimental, the group worked with producer Johnny K. and mixer Andy Wallace in order to create an album that could compare to other classic metal records they admired. Amplifying their fondness for groups like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Soundgarden, Believe was released in the fall of 2002 and was immediately recognized as a heavier, more varied, and ultimately superior record to their debut. ~ William Ruhlmann and Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide.

Album Title

The Sickness

Dave Draiman is the lead singer of Disturbed. He usually wears an orange jumpsuit with Disturbed written down its right sleeve. Dave is probably one of the most recognizable people in the band, just because he is always up front being loud. Not to say that the other members aren't recognizable, but Dave is usually the first person you see out front jumping around, screaming at the top of his lungs.

Dave is originally from Brooklyn, New York, but he now resides in the good old Chi-Town...Chicago itself! Dave says that his musical influences are Tool, KoRn, Faith No More, Busta Rhymes, and Method Man. But recently KoRn, Slipknot, Staind, Static-X, Type-O Negative and Moby have influenced him more.

Dan Donegan does the electronics, and he is the guitarist of Disturbed. Dave plays the guitars really fast, and he is one of the only guitarists out there whose live quality is equal with the quality on his CD. Most people will agree that on most CDs the guitars sound better than when you listen to the band live, but that is not true with Disturbed.

Dan was originally born in Oak Lawn, Illinois, but he later moved to Alsip, Illinois, where he grew up. He says his music is mostly influenced by Metallica, Black Sabbath, KoRn, Machinehead, and Sevendust. But KoRn, Machinehead, Slipknot, Static-X, and Staind have influenced him more lately. When Dan is not kicking ass with his band, he likes to write more music and check out other bands.

Mike Wengren is the drummer of Disturbed. He is usually recognized by his goatee with its red streak going through the middle of it. Mike is the main beat keeper of the band, if there were no drums behind the guitars and vocals, and then the music would sound totally different. Mike doesn't get his picture taken very often because he is always in the back and behind his drum set. I think this is a shame because he is a really important part of the band, but there isn't much anyone can do about it, because that's where he has to be.

Mike was born and raised in the south side of Chicago. He says that he has been musically influenced a lot by Vinnie Paul (from Pantera), Scott Travis (from Racer X, Judas Priest, and Fight), and Tommy Lee (from Methods of Mayhem and Motley Crue). But recently Machinehead, Slipknot, Sevendust, Staind, Meshuggah, KoRn, Static-X, Fear Factory, and Pantera have influenced him more.

Fuzz is the bassist of Disturbed. He is usually recognized by his blue-green dreadlocks that hang below his shoulders. He is a really fast bassist because he has been playing for a long time, ever since he was a kid. Fuzz usually tries to get the crowd pumped up by swinging his hair around his head. Fuzz plays a five string bass guitar, and he usually uses three or more amps when playing in a concert.

Fuzz is originally from Covington, Kentucky, but like all of the other members of the band, he is now a proud citizen of Chicago. Fuzz says that his main musical influences are the older bass players like Geddy Lee from Rush. But lately he has been more influenced by Tool, Rush, and his own music. His personal motto is: "Don't sit around bitching about your life, go out and do something to make it better! "

When Dan Donegan(guitarist), Mike Wengren(drummer), and Fuzz(bassist) sat and watched too many crappy auditions they were just about to give up all hope of ever finding someone with talent to be their vocalist when David Draiman (vocalist) Caught their attention three years ago. He also braught the bands amazing and simple name with him,Disturbed

David came from a conservative religious family who expected him to take a "respectable" path for his future like being a teacher but instead he became the lead singer of one of the most amazing bands in the world. He says, "My whole life, people have set out a certain path that they wanted me to follow. It didn't quite work out that way. Our songs and out Image are about how the reverse effect has occured-going to and getting kicked out of five different boarding schools didn't help, along with everyone trying to make all of us into what society would have us to be."

Disturbed started their road to fame when they sent a demo-tape to Giant Records,The company loved their original sound and signed them almost straight away.

They came up with an amazing first album named "The Sickness" Which blew away the minds of hundreds of metal heads who were oblivious to the depth and energy of Disturbeds sound.

With a large army of fans behind them in 2002 they reliesed their Second album Believe which has a different but just as rare and remarkable as their first. This time they tryed mixing their album using both aggressive and "peaceful" sounds.

Disturbed was formed in Chicago, Illinois - 1997

Once schoolmates, Donegan, Wengren and Fuzz picked up vocalist, Draiman, the band was set on a full scale attack on the rock scene. Disturbed was quick to show their presence and within two year's time were picked up by Giant Records.

The debut set, The Sickness, allowed the band immediate airplay and rotation on the MTV charts. The freshness of their own take on funk and metal gave the fans a new breed apart from the tiring alternative scene by 2000.

They joined the Ozzfest 2001 roster and was heralded as the new sound around. And by the 2002 excellent follow-up, Believe, the band placed one of the most solid albums in the rock mainstream, giving the listeners a varied collection of new grooves and melodic sounds by way of the singles, "Believe" and "Prayer".
