Teaching is a noble profession,
as teachers impart
knowledge to their students.
The profession does not only involve
teaching what is prescribed in the syllabus
but developing and shaping the young minds.
In short, a teacher must be a friend,
philosopher and guide.
Various levels of teaching are kindergarten,
middle, high and higher secondary schools.
Those with higher qualifications teach
in colleges and universities.
Specially qualified teachers are employed
in schools for the disabled, differently able, sports etc.

Those aspiring for teaching in kindergarten
should have completed 10+2
to seek admission to Nursery Teachers Training.
Both certificate and diploma are offered.
To teach in middle schools
Teachers Training Certificate is a must.
Minimum qualification to join this course is 10+2.
Those opting to teach in high schools
must have completed Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
Minimum eligibility is graduation in any discipline.
Diploma in Special Education is mandatory
to teach physically and mentally disabled students.
Eligibility to join this course is 10+2.
Teaching in colleges and universities
require specialized subject knowledge.
Therefore, one should have a post graduate degree
at least and preferably a Ph.D.
One must have also cleared
the National Eligibility Test (NET)
conducted by University Grants commission (UGC).
States also conducts State Level Eligibility Test (SLET).
Apart from the prescribed qualifications teachers must be
a good organizer, have patience to explain the courseware
to their students, discipline, friendly disposition, compassion,
self-confidence and passion for the subject they teach.
Jobs and careers:
Job opportunities exist in play schools,
kindergarten schools, elementary schools,
middle schools, high schools, higher secondary schools,
special schools, colleges and universities.
Those with strong sense of business acumen
and the service-oriented can start
their own educational institution.
