Architecture is the science of buildings. In other words it is mainly the study about planning designing and the construction of structures and buildings. It is the visualization and creation of building blocks. The area of study covers various aspects like spatial design, aesthetics, safety management, material management etc.
The line of work in architecture is multi-disciplinary. On completing the study of architecture he becomes an accredited professional who is skilled in the art and science of building. An architect is not only a trained professional designer but also an artist and a business person. He is involved in not just the planning and design of the building but also in all the stages of the construction of the building. He has to make sure that the functional, safety and economical requirements of the inhabitant is satisfactory. Architects are also trained in other aspects that range from conceptual problem solving to project management.
Architects are responsible for planning an entire city. They design, sketch, and bring their design to life by being actively involved in the construction. The job circumstances include site selection, field research and supervision, safety management, quality control, environmental planning, estimating and costing, supervision of construction work, interior decoration etc. The skyscrapers monuments, cottages, house etc all the visualization of their imagination.
Career option and remuneration:
Architecture is a highly competitive field that involves hard work. A talented and hard working person can attain successful position in this field. A highly successful architect is assessed by the size of responsibility entrusted upon him or an invitation to partnership in a firm. A fine and successful architect can also have thriving private practice. A fresh graduate can start to earn anywhere from 4000 Rs to 7000 Rs as a trainee under a well established architect. A good architect charges anywhere from 4% to 20 % of the total construction as his consultation fee.
Eligibility:
To become a qualified architect a bachelor’s degree in architecture (B.Arch) or Diploma in architecture is required. The basic eligibility is 10+2 (senior secondary Class XII) or equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination from a recognized Board/University with a minimum of 50% marks in Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). The candidate has to also qualify the entrance exam for the same.
Entrance Tests:
National and State level entrance examinations are conducted for Admission to first year of Five years full time undergraduate course in Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in various colleges of India. The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) conducts a national level entrance examination- All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) on an All India basis for entry to undergraduate programmes in B. Architecture and B. Planning in government and private institutes. The paper consists of Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing test. The National Aptitude test in Architecture (NATA), the online test with drawing exam is conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies and Architecture in association with the Council of Architecture (COA). NATA scores are used by admissions authorities of different unaided & Government aided schools / colleges of Architecture, to provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants. NATA measures aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking, perception, observation and architectural awareness.
