Animation is an exciting art of making imagination and reality merge through special effects and incredible graphics. This involves modern technology and creativity to bring about real and virtual experiences unleashing the power of imagination into an endless array of inanimate objects and characters. According to a study India’s animation industry is poised to cross the USD 2 billion. This means creation of job opportunities for a few lakh professionals in the filed of animation and content developing. The low cost of production in India is attracting major film production houses from all over the world to utilize the services and technical manpower in 2D and 3D animation projects.
Institutes with training facilities in the field of animation are available in all major cities of India like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram. The movie industry uses the services of the animation film companies spread across these cities. These companies are in demand for international projects in special effects and graphics in film production.
Requirements for a career in animation
Anyone with a flair for drawing, with a deep interest in imagination and creative ability can join courses in Design and/or Visual communication Course. After graduating they can join any film production house as trainees. The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad offers courses in Animation Film Design. There are other multimedia course offered by NIIT called Maxi media and other institutes like Image and Maya. There are foundation courses in multimedia that teach multimedia, covering concepts, techniques and tools. There are other fields like digital printing and publishing where products are designed for publishing.
Digital web authoring deals with website creation and annual report designing etc. Digital film animation course is for those who want to become professional animators. There are other diploma courses in Digital Visual communication that prepares candidates for careers in animation, image editing, multimedia authoring, page lay-out creation, web publishing and the like. Depending upon the skill sets, candidates can find employment as graphic designer, visual artist, supervisor, content writer, web designer, digital film animator and in management. The salaries are on par with the software industry and offer prospects of continued growth.
