It must have come like this and it was just a question of time when it's done. I'm speaking of a LIMP BIZKIT remix album. The date couldn't be chosen better as it's been more than three years since "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water" and it probably takes some time until their next album. So, that they aren't blown over between awards and TV performances, they release this remix album "New Old Songs".
Although bandleader Fred Durst claims that no fan should be betrayed and even he would never buy it, the question remains what's so useful with this collection of underdone remix versions and average Single B-sides. To the remixers on "New Old Songs" belong TIMBALAND, DJ PREMIER, THE NEPTUNES or DJ LETHAL himself, for instance. The list with famous guest musicians including SEAN "P. DIDDY/PUFF DADDY" COMBS, BUBBA SPARXXX and XZIBIT is also well cast. The weakest with the remixes is the fact, that the new mixed and overall known songs in their new shape and with the decrease of the powerful guitar sound, appear very powerless and they soon get you bored.

Moreover, with the new versions it comes true that Fred Durst's voice has not much expressiveness and that this fact isn't that showy on common records due to their fat sound. "Nookie" appears two times and "My Way", including the bonus tracks, comes in five different versions. Variation is actually important and so, LIMP BIZKIT have done something completely wrong here.

Even though this album is only for "Die Hard fans" and should not be seen as a new release, they should have never thought about such a record and not remixing some good songs and destroy them with the remixes. Just a waste of time! (Online September 22, 2003)
