Sega Pico

The Sega Pico is a lap-top style video game system designed for young children that was introduced in 1994 at a cost of US139. It has a 16-bit processor and is connected to a television, allowing children to interact with educational games. It looks like a lap-top for kids, however, it does not have its own screen but rather a drawing pad that kids can draw and write on using the "magic pen". There are also directional keys to control movement in the games.

The console has been made with heavy plastic and bright colours that appeal to young children. Various items can be attached to the keypad depending on what game is being played, for example storybooks that interact with the console so the screen will display pictures when the pages are turned. It runs from cartridges and features real voices, music and sound effects.
The Pico is an excellent alternative to PC-based children´s games. A number of games were made, mostly featuring well-known characters from children´s books and television programs. Unfortunately it was short-lived and somewhat rare. Sega Pico Technical Specifications
