The Notorious B.I.G.

Christopher G. Wallace was born to pre-school teacher Voletta Wallace and an unknown father on may 21st 1973 in the New York borough of Brooklyn.Christopher grew up in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn, where he lived in a well kept home with his mother (it was definately not a ´one room shak´ as he described in Juicy).Voletta sent her son to a middle class school, the same one that fellow Brooklyn rapper Jay Z attended.Christophers life was not anythin like the rough ghetto tales that he rapped about in his lyrics, his mom tried her best to protect him from the street thug lifestyle. However once in his adolescent years he was attracted to that way of life,so he began hangin out with drug dealers and stick up kids on the street corners in his neighborhood. At this time christopher was working as a bag packer at the
Met Food Market in Brooklyn,he didnt earn alot but he did develop a close friendship with ´Chico´ the Met´s manager, who would later become a member of Junior M.A.F.I.A..Christopher quit his job, much to Chico´s dismay, and began sellin crack outside a barbershop across from the Met under the nickname Biggie Smalls.Biggie soon became feared in the neighborhood, mainly due to his 6´3,280 pound figure. However on one drug dealing trip to North Carolina,he was arrested and served 8 months in prison. When he was released Biggie decided it was time for a change. So he began rappin,he would battle on street corners and lyricaly destroy all competition. He then recorded some of his raps onto an 8 track tape in a friends basement in Brooklyn. The was passed around New York for a couple of months, gatherin heat as it went, before findin its way
To the renouned New York hip hop dj,Mr Cee.Upon hearin the tape,an excited Mr Cee took it to the head of Uptown Records,Andre Harrell.Harrell was impressed and decided to put a Biggie track on the Who Tha Man ? Soundtrack. The track ´Party And Bullshit´ alerted the rap world immediately of what was to come.Meanwhile at Uptown a young executive/producer name Sean Combs or Puffy, was fired and decided to set up his own record label named Bad Boy Records.Combs took all his artists with him, which included a singer called Mary J. Blige, but his main star was to be Biggie Smalls. So he offered Biggie a contract and the two of them set out to put New York back on the music scene.Around this time Biggie was also the opening act for the rapper Tupac Shakur, who became a close friend of his.Biggie and Tupac even found time to record some
Underground tracks together. The result was two of the most sought after hip hop records of all time, ´Be The Realist´ and ´Stop The Gunfight´.Both tracks have never officially been released, but are available on certain mixtapes.A few weeks after these tracks where recorded Tupac was goin to record some songs with another rapper in a Times Square studio, but at the door of the studio he was shot 5 times and robbed of $40,000 worth of jewellery.Biggie was present.Shortly after the shooting he went to visit Tupac in hospital, not knowin that this would be the last time they would ever speak as friends.Biggie´s first Bad Boy tracks were collaborations with Mary J. Blige on the songs ´Real Love (RMX)´ and ´Whats The 411 ? (RMX).He then released a maxi promotional single that featured one of his most popular songs ever ´Dreams´.With
The sucess of the single and numerous colabs,Biggie released his much anticipated debut album ´Ready To Die´.The album was an instant hit.It finally brought the attention back to New York from the West Coast gangsta that had ruled the early 90´s.This earned Biggie the name of The Notorious B.I.G..Not long after the release of the album Biggie married the singer Faith Evans, whom he had only met 9 days before they wed. However there was problems,Biggie already had a daughter from a previous relationship and he began having an open affair with Junior M.A.F.I.A member Kimberely Jones aka Lil Kim.To make matters worse,Tupac Shakur had just been released from prison and was accusing Biggie of settin him up to get shot back in ´94.At the same time Junior M.A.F.I.A´s debut album ´Conspiracy´ was released featurin two tracks with Biggie
Called ´The Playa´s Anthem´ and ´Get Money´.Both were huge hits, but another Biggie record was makin all the noise.´Who Shot Ya´ was interpreted as a message to Tupac. This prompted Pac to respond with the most vicious and hate filled rap record of all time.In ´Hit Em Up´ Pac declared that he was havin an affair with Biggie´s wife and also said he would kill him in no uncertain terms. These two records resulted in the creation of the ´east coast/west coast rap wars´ by the worlds media. However things were put into perspective on the night of september 7th 1996,wen Tupac was shot in a drive by shooting 6 times. He died 7 days later.Biggie stayed cool, kept his mouth shut and went on a promotional tour to promote his second album ´Life After Death´.Around december of ´96 whilst filmin the video for the albums lead single ´Hypnotize´
He broke his leg and had to use a cane for the next few months. Then just weeks before the albums release,Biggie was attendin a Soul Train after party at the Peterson Motor Museum in Los Angeles. After the event,in which he picked up his last award,Biggie and his entourage were drivin away from the party when a black Escalade pulled up to Biggies door. The gunman fired 13 shots and hit Biggie several times,he couldnt attempt to dodge them as his leg was broken.Christopher Wallace was pronounced dead on March 17th 1997.The next day his body was flown to La Guardia airport in New York, where he was then driven through his old Brooklyn neighborhood to the sound of ´Hypnotize´ bein blasted out of someones speakers.Thousands turned out to pay their respects to Brooklyn´s Finest.
