Bad Boy Records

-WE WONT STOP-

In 1994 a young record executive/producer named Sean Combs was fired from Uptown Records by CEO Andre Harrell.Combs immediately decided he wouldnt give up on his dream,so he started his own label called Bad Boy Records. The first artists signed to his label were long time friend Mary J. Blige and fellow singer Faith Evans.Their first record was Mary´s debut classic ´Whats The 411 ?´.The album was an instant hit and due to the sucess Combs decided to release a remixed version. It was on this album that Bad Boy would showcase its newest artist,a rapper named The Notorious B.I.G..The Brooklyn Mc featured on the remixes of ´Whats The 411 ?´ and ´Real Love´.Shortly after this Biggie,as he was known, released his debut album ´Ready To Die´.It was an immediate hit and in doin so put east coast rap back on the map.Next up for Bad Boy
was Biggie Smalls Junior M.A.F.I.A crews album ´Conspiracy´.The album was followed by group member Lil Kim´s album ´Notorious K.I.M.´.At this time a feud had developed between Bad Boy and west coast label Deathrow Records. The ´war´ between these two came to a head when Deathrows Tupac Shakur was killed in a drive by shooting in september 1996.However Bad Boy was not involved and moved on to there next project,The Notorious B.I.G´s follow up album ´Life After Death´.But on March 17th ´97,Biggie Smalls was gunned down in a drive by in Los Angeles. His death overshadowed much of Bad Boys next releases such as Ma$e´s ´Harlem World´.Then in the fall of that year Sean Combs, now known as Puffy, released his debut album ´No Way Out´.It was a huge sucess and the single ´I´ll Be Missing U´,which was dedicated to Biggie, was one of the top
Selling singles of the year.Over the next couple of years Bad Boys record sales slowly declined, the only real seller was Biggies unreleased album ´Born Again´.This was followed by a remix album and a new Puffy album called ´The Saga Continues..´.The lead single of this joint was ´Bad Boy 4 Life´,which put Bad Boy back where it once was.Although Mary J. Blige,Faith Evans and 112 have all left, the label is still goin strong. With a successfull Makin Tha Band tv series and the return of Ma$e to the label things are lookin up for Bad Boy,but they will never top the success of their biggest artist,The Notorious B.I.G.
