PlayStation 3: Inside and Out

{Supercomputer Entertainment}

Coming soon in SA 2007 spring. The PlayStation 3 will have a 3.2GHz Cell processor that consists of a single PowerPC-based core with seven synergistic processing units. The Cell is the result of a joint effort between IBM, Sony, and Toshiba. The primary PowerPC core has a 512KB L2 cache, and each SPE has 256KB of its own memory to work with. The CPU has an 8 SPE for "redundancy" which might be a spin on explaining how Cell chips can still be valid even with a once-defective SPE unit. The PS3 has 256MB of RAM (Rambus) XDR memory and 256MB of GDDR3 memory dedicated to graphics. The PS3's advanced graphics power will allow the system to output the previously discussed dual, high-definition 1080p video streams. The PS3 has a storage capacity of 60GB of memory. (Hard Drive) It can play DVD games up to 50GB of space. It has a detachable hard drive and Bluetooth wireless for up to 7 wireless controllers and according to Sony it is 35 times more powerful than the PS2. Its the best game console ever bilt by Sony and on the market. (All hardware can upgrade just like a PC.) Get Your PS3.
