How to Meditate

The Hong Sau Technique

Whether you are just trying to relax and reduce stress or you crave spiritual development this is an excellent technique. It is incredibly enjoyable to perform. Even at the early stages you should achieve - at will - the euphoric state similar to the point between dreaming and sleeping. A blissful relaxed state. Don´t be decieved by the simplicity of this technique it is extremely effective!

Find a quiet place. Sit in a position which is upright but that you find comfortable. A chair is fine.

Sit quetly for half a minute to settle. You may count to thirty slowly.

Now the trick is this be as passive as possible whilst still performing the technique. The major point is watching your breath pattern.

The important mechanism is ATTENTION. If you are watching with a minimum amount of ´doing´ then the technique will automatically take you to the bliss state of consciousness. Fast breath, slow breath, deep or shallow breath are all fine. The watching is what does the magic!

Now as you breath in say silently to yourself ´Hong´.

As you breath out say silently to yourself ´Saw´

Do this for ten minutes at first and build up according to your own needs.

When you finish keep your eyes closed for two minutes to let yourself gently come round to normal waking consciousness.

Don´t worry if you forget what you are doing and drift off. Falling asleep is very common for beginners. Your body is begining to shake off fatigue. This is a sign that things are going well!

Dont worry if you forget the words half way through or the pronunciation changes.
