Los enigmáticos surcos de Malta
-------------------

In the archipelago of Malta, there are intriguing traces the enigmatic prehistoric groove MALTA, even your oldest megalithic temples. The Maltese cart routs call (grooves for cars), but everything indicates that this was not its purpose. What and who then served constructed? Along with this puzzle, there are other, related to the Knights of the Order of Malta, which still poses many questions.

Introduction of a foot in the furrows left leg and half hidden among the limestone. Had not arisen in nature, caused by erosion. That was clear. Someone had to have cut this way and that direction. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of these roads Maltese megalithic temple.
lead nowhere in the vicinity of the Maltese town of San Pawl Tat-Targa, close to where tradition says that the Apostle Paul preached. My sight was lost following the contours of my steps and rails are interrupted while trying to follow his trail. Grooves that are aligned in pairs with parallel lanes as endless drilled in the flat, rocky soil. The books I read had not clarified the matter by whom or what was used.

Undoubtedly, it was before one of the most unexplained mysteries of the Mediterranean, a mystery such that has led to more than one researcher to Malta to watch closely. Eric von Däniken in his book "Prophet of the past" (1979) notes that these rails on the islands of Malta and Gozo were an exemplary case of mistaken attitude on the part of archaeologists. He said because there are many theories that try to explain this road that cuts across the island, ostensibly to transport heavy loads, but most do not stand up to the lower visual analysis. Däniken concludes that the only indisputable "that occurred in prehistoric times in Malta something extraordinary, something that has not ever again anywhere else in the world."

What was this extraordinary event that impressed the Swiss researcher? He was convinced that the island "should be an important center for someone and for something." That someone can be who they were to imagine it: alien gods.

Not surprisingly, in Malta and Gozo are located a series of megalithic monuments that defy reason, some of them are recognized as the oldest structures are preserved in the foot-megalithic temples and Skorba of Mgarr, Malta, and the Ggantija, on the island of Gozo, dating from the 3300 BC But these works are very cyclopean after the mysterious roads.

To explain this puzzle have been proposed over the pilgrims and all theories end up being unsatisfactory. The simplest is to think that this is caused by drifts trucks; furrows which served to them by passing vehicles with wheels. But does at a time when there were no wheels?

The official theory tells us that these tracks carved into the rock would have to carry large slabs of stone for the construction of cyclopean temples that are scattered between Malta and Gozo. However, as we have pointed out the fact that they are more modern grooves. In addition there is the added mystery of it is disappearing lanes suddenly in ravines, fields and cliffs. Many are cropped at the edge of steep cliffs. None addresses directly the core of Hagar Qim, Mnajdra and Tarxien (Malta) or Ggantija (in Gozo).

On the other hand, must be ruled out that it is "rails", it does not always follow parallel lines, with different track gauges (even within the same section), some are crossed, and sometimes curves are unlikely in such so that the wheel axles of a hypothetical would, sooner or later, stuck in the ground.

The Islanders were called "routs cart" and recognize that this is a unique mystery and genuine prehistoric Malta. Just found 'rails' appear in Cyrenaica (Libya) and in some areas of Sicily. Moreover, these routs cart "to get lost at sea and that it is disconcerting.

It has been suggested that Malta should have been at one time much more extensive. A geological scale, it is thought that very possibly Sicily was united with the neighboring islands of Gozo, Comino and Filfla, the last glacial period. At the end of the ice age, 10,000 years ago, the sea claimed for itself several tracts of land, causing the melting of the rising water levels.

Before you know it had been speculated on the possibility that these ridges have been built in the days when the level was lower in the Mediterranean. But thanks to research submarine has been found that the rails remain deep, run the rocks of the seabed, which gives credibility to the hypothesis of an association of the Maltese archipelago emerged with other lands in antiquity.

Paleolithic grooves, and here we are entering a slippery slope, because the length of these rails presents great difficulties. Being of stone, many of the current dating methods are not effective because they are not remnants of organic matter. It is therefore necessary to look at the evidence that gives us a place and at their own disposal.

The theory gives an age of 6000 years is based on several points: and then sinking beneath the sea and the fact that some go below Phoenician tombs of the period (a maximum was flourishing between the years 1000 and 500 BC ) and even older sediments.

Also puzzling is its irregularity: grooves are arranged in pairs of about 1 meter distance between them, although not always the case because of its size range from 65 to 123 cm. Each of the grooves typically have a width of 10 to 15 cm and an average of 15 cm deep. This is the rule, but in some cases, as I personally, exceed half a meter.

Many researchers maintain that the grooves are the result of the wheels or bearings, with the passing of the centuries, leaving some cars were towed prehistoric. If we accept this hypothesis, we miss the earth by a stroke of history who want to deny that at that time, much less in Malta, there are cultures that know the wheel, because it was "officially" invented by the Sumerians ago about 5000 years.

When you look closely, we find that these "tracks" used to carry something, but what exactly? Some say they were water. The downside is that some of these grooves are up, and without the aid of an engine (which did not) or a pipe (not found) is difficult such an endeavor. Others suggest that lanes were made of wood or stone sledges pulled by oxen.

Disparate theories, other researchers are more daring when it comes to present their findings. Some argue that the rails were used to cast molten metal, but this theory falls under its own weight, as the ingot should be built at a time when metal was still unknown. Or that the lanes were part of a timetable for determining the solstices and equinoxes. Another mistake, as the grooves are still all directions resulting in a gibberish which interpretation is more than astronomical forced. Finally, there are those who argue that the network of paths used for the cultivation of a new product unknown at present.

To Däniken and his followers are forced to conclude that they did not have a practical purpose, but religious: the primitive Maltese erected on the island these furrows and stone monuments as a tribute to their gods extraterrestrials. However, I am sure that this huge work was done by human hands. Ignore the fact that the answers to the questions posed to us, does not have to resort to the interplanetary aliens.

Fortunately, these tracks are now ignored by tourists and the Maltese population in general, which has preserved predation. Today are only a few, scattered in very specific places. But thousands of years ago were such that both islands (Gozo and Malta) had to be drilled by them. Among the sites where most abundant on the island of Malta, Borg in-Nadur out and near the town of Sant Pawl Tat-Targa. There I saw with amazement how a quarry next was destroying these grooves in its quest to extract stone for construction, thus losing the millennial legacy before we are able to discover its meaning.
